Our Society: ORBEL   The Belgian Operations Research society, also known as SOGESCI-B.V.W.B.

SOGESCI-B.V.W.B. is the Belgian Society for the promotion of scientific methods of management. Its goal is to contribute to the diffusion of new tools, methods and knowledge in the fields of Operational Research, Statistics, Pattern Recognition and related disciplines. It also aims at stimulating research in the above fields as well as developing the cooperation between researchers and with the industry and business, both on national and international levels.

The Society counts more than one hundred members. It represents Belgium in a number of international associations and federations of national societies including

  • EURO, the European Association of Operational Research Societies (ORBEL representatives are Pierre Kunsch and Bernard Fortz),
  • IFORS, the International Federation of Operational Research Societies, (ORBEL representative is Bernard Fortz)

Those associations play an important role, in particular by organizing large international conferences, summer or winter schools, publishing journals and newsletters, awarding prizes, supporting working groups. Several members of SOGESCI-BVWB are very active in those associations and occupy important positions therein.

Services to the members

The Society offers his members a number of services including

  • free subscription to its journal 4OR,
  • organisation of yearly conferences and workshops,
  • awarding of a the Sogesci-BVWB thesis award
  • email newsletter about OR-related call for papers, job offers, books, seminars and conferences,
  • etc.
 
How to become a member  
In order to become a member of ORBEL, you should download the registration form for 2010 here and follow the instructions therein to pay your member dues.

Membership fees for 2010 and 2011:

  • personal membership: 55 EUR
  • student / retired: 30 EUR
  • institutional membership: 50 EUR per person (with a grouped payment for a minimum of 3 persons)
Please note it is possible to anticipate payment of the fees for 2011, at the 2010 rates.
