The systems and models department at ArcelorMittal Gent

The systems and models department at ArcelorMittal-Gent is, among others, responsible for optimizing the organization’s business processes. About 25 engineers are continuously investigating and developing strategies to minimize costs, increase productivity and improve the quality of the company’s production and logistical processes. The systems and models department often works together with research institutions and/or software suppliers to develop solutions to the specific problems in this particular industry. Mathematical optimization techniques are extensively used to this end. The department has two subdivisions, the process models subdivision is in charge of optimizing the process and the management models subdivision is accountable for improving production planning, inventory management, logistics and transport. Both subdivisions work together on applications that steer the organization’s business processes in the most ideal manner, and conduct studies which serve as a basis for managerial decisions on future investments.
