Dear colleague,

I would like to invite you to attend the following seminar:

Prof. Dr. Tonguc Unluyurt
Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabanci University, Turkey

Some extensions of the sequential testing problem

Monday, February 23, 2015
16h00 - 16h45

Location:
Room HOGC 91.118 (baseroom), Naamsestraat 69, Leuven

Abstract:

The sequential testing problem involves the identification of the system state with the minimum expected cost when the state depends on the states of the individual components. It is costly to learn the states of individual components and some type of probability distribution is assumed as to the states of the individual components or the system. There are various applications of this problem and its extensions in computer science, operations research and industrial engineering. The goal of this talk is to provide a brief review of the sequential testing problem and then to introduce an extension where it is possible to execute some tests together for a cost advantage for a series system. We will provide the model, discuss the some properties of the model and describe some solution algorithms. Time permitting we will present some preliminary computational results.

This seminar is organized in the framework of the "Meet the jury" initiative. Professor Unluyurt is visiting KU Leuven as member of the jury of the PhD defense of Wenchao Wei, to be held on February 24, 2015.
