FUNCTION
FedEx Express is looking for an Operations Research Advisor for its Strategic Planning and Operations Research department based in downtown Brussels.

As an Operations Research Advisor, you will join a team of Operations Research and Business Analyst Professionals in charge of strategic and tactical network design. You will be expected to use advanced Operations Research knowledge to support the planning processes (air & ground). You will demonstrate leadership, vision and autonomy in producing high quality OR studies and models. You will take initiative in driving change and improvement in the way we work.

Your main tasks will be to:

Analyze and understand the planning processes. You will work closely with business analysts from who you will have to understand the business, the planning processes, the challenges, their concerns and expectations for OR studies and models.
Identify areas of opportunities for Operations Research driven developments delivering high value for the planning.
Suggest through structured and clear communication these developments to management, underlining clearly problem descriptions, foreseen model formulation and complexity, inputs and outputs, alternative algorithmic approaches, required preliminary research, timeline and resources elements, as well as expected benefits for the business and the risks linked to these elements.
Perform modeling of identified problems into mathematical optimization models.
Design the algorithms for solving the models.
Perform the required research phase for algorithmic/modeling purposes.
Implement models using programming language and mathematical optimization solver.
Train and support business analysts on the use of the developed models.
Review, adapt and maintain the pool of existing OR models.
Perform OR driven studies on conceptual ideas suggested by analysts in order to support Executive Management decision making

Additionally, you might be expected to:
Depending on project size, lead cross-functional projects for OR model development
Analyze/Review optimization and planning supporting software and provide recommendations.
Perform strategic analysis on new concepts for network design.

PROFILE
(You may consider applying even while not meeting all profile expectations, since less senior positions might possibly be considered)

You have both a strong theoretical knowledge and a practical experience in Operations Research and Optimization.
You display both vision and creativity in using theoretical knowledge and business focus when considering the value of OR developments.
You hold a Ph.D. in Operations Research/Mathematical Optimization (or equivalent quantitative discipline with a Ph.D. focused on OR)
You have a very good knowledge of optimization techniques, including at least MIP (additional techniques are clearly a plus)
You have at least 5 years of experience (in addition to your Ph.D. cursus) in applying Operations Research to real life cases.
You have strong analytical skills and experience in interpreting, understanding and modeling complex processes and data as well as in developing innovative OR solutions.

You have good project management skills with experience in managing complex projects.
You are fluent in English (working language).
You have strong written & excellent verbal communication skills.

You have good command of scripting/programming [including development, testing, implementation] in at least 1 language (C/C++/Java/VB/Perl/SAS,…); preferably 2.
You have a good knowledge of IT systems & their capabilities and of the different operating systems.
You have excellent PC skills including intermediate level in MS Office Pro and advanced Excel level.
You have good knowledge and experience of mathematical solvers (Cplex, Xpress, Gurobi,…).
You have Basic MIS and DB skills
