Ph.D. Students in Operations and Supply Chain Management

(Full-time, PhD-track)

 

 

About the Positions

UCLouvain and UNamur are looking for two PhD students (one at each university) in Operations and Supply Chain Management, as part of an interdisciplinary project on the sharing economy.

 

Project description

The project PROSEco (Platforms Operations and Regulation in the Sharing Economy) looks at the overarching question: How can platforms in the sharing economy deliver long-lasting value for their stakeholders and for society as a whole? The objective of the project is to conduct a fine grained analysis of the implications of sharing economy from an Operational, Economic and Legal perspective. Job description and location

The position involves research activities towards completion of a PhD in Operations and Supply Chain Management on a topic related to the sharing economy. The candidates would be required to attend courses in order to fulfil the doctoral program requirements of the respective universities where they are hired. S/he would also have opportunities to attend conferences in the field of Operations/Supply Chain Management. Due to the collaborative nature of the project regular meetings will be held at either of the three locations (Louvain la Neuve, Mons or Namur) linked with the two participating universities.

One candidate will be primarily based at the Louvain School of Management (LSM) of UCLouvain (campuses in Louvain-la-Neuve and Mons). It is located at the centre of Europe, close to the EU institutions and to the headquarters of major international companies. The other candidate will be primarily based in the Business Administration department of University of Namur which is located in the picturesque town of Namur, the capital of Wallonia (French speaking part of Belgium). It is located at less than an hour’s journey from Brussels, Louvain-la-Neuve and Mons.

 

Requirements

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in management, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, have a strong quantitative background, show a strong interest in operations and supply chain management. They must have a good command of spoken and written English (French is a plus but not required). The collaborative nature of the project requires strong team working capabilities.

 

Contract

The researcher will be hired full-time for a period of two years, which is extendable to additional two years depending on a positive evaluation. The contract starts in principle on October 1st, 2019. If required, we will help the candidate in finding additional funding. The net fellowship will be about 2000 euros per month and would include complete Belgian social insurance scheme (health care, etc.) without additional expenses.
