HEC Liège is looking for a PhD Student in Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics.

A PhD student position, funded through a full-time research and teaching assistantship, is available at HEC Liège – Management School of the University of Liège. 

The successful candidate will prepare a doctoral thesis in the fields of operational research and supply chain management under the supervision of Prof. Yasemin Arda. The thesis subject will be related to the current and future research projects of the group on operational research methods (mathematical modelling and optimization, stochastic programming, combinatorial optimization, exact solution approaches (e.g., branch-and-price), heuristic solution approaches (e.g., metaheuristics), etc.) and their applications in supply chain management (network design, production planning, scheduling and sequencing, vehicle routing, pricing, healthcare operations management, etc.).

As a PhD student and junior researcher at HEC Liège, you will be affiliated to the strategic research field Supply Chain Management & Business Analytics as a member of the research centre Quantitative methods and Operations Management (QuantOM). You will attend the doctoral program offered by HEC Liège in collaboration with Belgian partner universities. You will contribute to the scientific activities of the research field and represent QuantOM in the international scientific community through (for instance) participation in scientific conferences and workshops.

The teaching load (40% of the working time) concerns bachelor or master-level courses in the fields of operational research, supply chain management, production planning and scheduling, and operations management. The teaching activities include conducting exercise, practical, and remediation sessions, group project monitoring, preparation and grading of projects and exams, etc.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You hold (or will hold by the time you will be hired) a 120 ECTS-credits Master’s degree in a related field (business engineering, management science, information systems, computer science, industrial engineering, civil engineering, mathematics, applied sciences, operational research, business analytics, etc.)
  • You have a keen interest in operational research methods and their applications in supply chain management
  • You have prior experience in managing a research project (e.g., Master thesis project) and an interest for starting a PhD
  • You have experience in making use of optimization tools like CPLEX and Gurobi, and in algorithm development using programming languages like Julia, C++, Java, MATLAB
  • You have good communication skills
  • You have excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of French is an asset

CONTRACT

This is a full-time “research and teaching assistant” position. The first contract will cover the period until October 2020. Upon a positive evaluation at the end of this first period, a mandate with a term of 2 years will be offered. The 2-year mandate will be renewed after receiving a positive evaluation maximum 3 times (maximum 6 years starting from October 2020). The salary will be set according to the research and teaching assistant salary scale of the University of Liège (i.e., approximately 2.100 € net per month, including all types of expenses). The candidate will start the earliest on October 2019.
